A five star hotel in Bangkok, Thailand has instituted a new technological breakthrough in their hotel; RFID non-contact locks on the doors. Simply flashing a keycard with the matching RFID will unlock the door without the guest having to even touch the door or twist a lock. This allows for convenience and added security and luxury. The door locks can also be opened using a cell phone that has been programmed with the correct RFID. As these phones become more widely used and available, the hotel will be able to increase security and convenience even further.
This breakthrough in technological integration will add to this particular hotel’s appeal to potential guests. The promise of a simpler and more secure environment is a crucial aspect of any hotel, and this hotel is a pioneer. It is also a more green approach, reducing wasted or lost room keys with an easy to activate system of replacements. Once the cell phone system becomes utilized, it will eliminate the issue of keycards entirely. Overall, the combination of increased security and the feeling of increased luxury will make this upgrade by the hotel an economical and smart purchase.

i agree that this will be beneficial for both the hotel and the customer. although it is only a small change, the added security and convenience will surely entise the customers. And these are two things that a customer is looking for when they are in a hotel. As said, cost will be cut down because there are no more key cards that can be lost. if some one does not have a cell phone, this could propose an issue but in this day and age, almost everyone has one.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the new RFID locks are a good idea. With the ability of unlokcing and locking your door without havinbg to tunr a knob or insert a keycard will make it easier and a lot more convient for all the guests. the convience of having the RFID locks will allow guests to enjoy their time in the city or town that they are visiting and without having to worry about making sure that they have their key or their keycard. These locks are a benfits to the hotel and I expecty many other hotels to quickly follow suit.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jesse that RFID is an economical and smart purchase. It is also true that this is a type of "green" approach. Going green seems to be a new concern to many, so this may attract customers. The fact that cell phones can now be used instead of keys completely is a cool idea that will most likely be used in the future a lot. From this article summary, and what we learned in class, I believe RFID is the best type of locking and entering system. It is good for security purposes, can be in the form of keys, wristbands, cell phones, etc., and is important in technology today. This just shows RFID is a smart new trend that will not be ending anytime soon.
